Sofia Vidal is a Peruvian ceramic artist and educator based in South Florida. Her practice explores memory, identity, and human connection through clay, drawing from her Peruvian heritage, formative years in Japan, and background in product design.

Working with handbuilding, nerikomi, and slip casting, Vidal creates contemporary ceramics that bridge craft, design, and storytelling. Her work encompasses contemporary interpretations of pre-Hispanic visual traditions, installations reflecting on womanhood, and functional objects that explore the relationship between the body and the vessel.

Across these varied series, she investigates how ceramics can preserve cultural memory, human touch, and lived experience.

Vidal received a scholarship to study ceramics at Musashino Art University in Tokyo, Japan, where she spent four years completing a master's degree under the guidance of Professor Makoto Komatsu. She later received a fellowship at the Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute in Jingdezhen, China, and participated in the 4th International Porcelain Symposium in the Czech Republic—experiences that deepened her understanding of ceramics as both material and cultural practice.

After returning to Peru, she worked with artisan communities and founded Kumiko Ceramics Studio, where she developed her artistic practice while teaching and designing functional ceramics. Since relocating to the United States, she has managed the ceramics program at the Boca Raton Museum Art School while maintaining an active studio practice, balancing making and teaching to foster meaningful connections through clay.
